The Nissan Fairlady Z was designed to bring credibility to the Japanese automotive industry in western markets. At the very last minute Yutaka Katayama convinced his superiors that a car named after the CEO's favorite play (My Fairlady) would be ridiculed in the American market, and had all the export cars re-badged as DATSUN 240Z.
